Local brewery tops its class at 2008 Australian International Beer Awards!

The quality of beers produced by South Melbourne’s own “Emerald Hill Brewery” was recognized last week at the 2008 Australian International Beer Awards. After winning two Bronze medals at the 2007 Awards, Emerald Hill Pale was this year ranked at the top of the “Australian Style Pale Ale” Category.

Founder and brewer, Carl Jacobson, left an engineering career to follow his dream of starting a brewery with the assistance of a bunch of family and friends. After a low key opening in 2006, Emerald Hill Brewery has been developing a loyal customer base of locals and beer aficionados, who gather at the brewery every Friday night to celebrate the end of the working week.

Emerald Hill Brewery’s beers are hand crafted from Australian malt using traditional brewing methods – all are unfiltered, and contain no preservatives or additives. The brewery is currently brewing three beers - Emerald Hill Pale, an Australian style Pale ale with an English influence, Emerald Hill Wheat, a German style Hefeweizen and Emerald Hill Stout, an Oatmeal Stout made from six different grains, with notes of coffee, chocolate and caramel.

Emerald Hill Brewery is located at 20 Ross Street, South Melbourne (just off Clarendon Street), and is open to the public from 5pm every Friday night. The brewery can also be hired for private functions from Thursday to Sunday. More details can be found at: www.emeraldhillbrewery.com.au.
